As part of ongoing infrastructure upgrades at a live Conoco Phillips petrochemical facility, Hewitson Limited was brought in by Tilbury Douglas to deliver groundworks for a new substation. The £600k, 40-week scheme required robust planning and close coordination due to the highly controlled operational environment. 

Our scope included full groundworks delivery, incorporating extensive ductwork installations, drainage elements, and hard landscaping. With the site remaining fully operational throughout, strict plant restrictions, live traffic routes and logistical limitations demanded careful sequencing and disciplined execution. 

Collaboration played a key role in the success of the project. Working in tandem with Tilbury Douglas and Conoco Phillips, we held regular coordination sessions to align programme requirements, secure permits, and ensure safe access and egress across the site. Forward planning was essential, with daily plant checks, equipment servicing, and controlled work sequencing helping maintain compliance and minimise disruption to existing operations. 

Despite the challenges associated with a live petrochemical environment, the project was delivered safely and efficiently, providing essential infrastructure to support the client’s wider electrical upgrades.
